Important August 3rd - 7th Reminders

Parents, players, and Collison,

Here is the schedule for next week:

  • Wednesday Evening: 7:00 pm, High School Football Field. Last Inner-Squad 7-on-7. This will be the last evaluation day going into 2-A-Days. It's important that everyone attend this practice, even if you haven't been to all of the previous Wednesday workouts.
  • Thursdays, August 6th: Official sign-up and equipment distribution. Make sure you only show up at your designated time. MAKE SURE THAT YOU BRING BOTH YOUR PHYSICAL CARD, AND A COPY OF YOUR PHYSICAL CARD TO ME DURING SIGN-UP. If you are unable to get your physical before Thursday, then make sure to hand it in to me at the Family BBQ Friday evening. Sign-up schedule:
  • Seniors: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
  • Juniors: 9:00 am - 10:00 am
  • Sophomores: 10:00 am - 11:00 am
  • Freshman: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • Friday morning, August 7th: Anyone that was unable to make it to Thursday's sign-up and the Iron Hawk testing, must be at the school no later that 8:00 am Friday morning. We will issue the appropriate equipment, and finish your testing portion during the morning.
  • Friday evening, August 7th: Mandatory Senior Conditioning Practice 5:30 pm sharp on the football field. This conditioning will be run by the seniors, but all grades must participate.
  • Family BBQ: Will take place at 7:00 pm right after the conditioning session. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL PARENTS ATTEND THE BBQ. I will be passing out important 2-A-Day and game week information.

It's hard to believe that football is only one week away. I'm looking forward to an outstanding season by all levels. Continue to challenge each other in order to take this family to the next level!!! "If you can't see the invisible, you'll never be able to achieve the impossible!"

7-24-09 Reminders/Clarification (Important!)

Gentlemen . . . and Collison,

We are just going to review all of the install from the last four days tomorrow. Practice will be a little shorter than usual, that's if we can get through each phase without too much explanation and more actual practice. It looks like I will be making a few minor changes to the offensive playbook, but nothing that is going to make your head spin. I'll simply be adding the adjustments we have made to certain plays in order for you to have a precise source of reference when you are studying your playbook.

A few things that need to be addressed for tomorrow:
  • 90's Protection: Full Backs/H's - From now on, if we are in a Pro Formation, and we check a 90's pass play, such as "Check, Check, 1, 90 Dancer . . . 1, 90 Dancer!" You must sprint to your flush alignment and run whatever 90's play was called. In this case you would line up and run Dancer. The offensive line, TE, and Tailback will run a 50 or 51 Protection to whatever side the TE is in. So, if we were lined up in Pro Rt., then you would line up to the Left, and the O-Line would run a 50 Protection with the TE staying in to block the DE. The Tackle to the TE side would simply spy the Sam LB, now that the DE is taken care of by the TE.
  • 50/51: Slight change; nothing too big. In 50/51 we will always check the protection to the TE side. If it is Pro Rt. we will check 50 Protection. 50/51 means nothing to the Tackles because you will always have the DE to their side. Example: Andrew will always block the Left DE and Trevor will always block the Right DE. All of the same rules apply to the Guards and Center. Example: 50 Protection - Bobby steps hard right to block DT in the 3 Tech.; Wehbe steps hard with Left foot and left hand to help Collison, but spy's Mike LB to his right; Collison steps hard right to take over 1 Tech lined up on Wehbe's left shoulder. Tailback will no longer have the option to run a pass route. The Tailback will always block the LB lined up between the Guard and tackle away from the 50/51 call. Example: 50 Protection - Tailback looks to block LB between Left Guard and Left Tackle. The Fullback/H will run whatever pass route he is designated to run unless he hears a 60/61 Call. If the tailback or Tackle to strength reads BLITZ, they will make a 60 or 61 Call. This just means that the Fullback has to CHECK FOR BLITZ FIRST before he runs his route. It must be a good 1001 count, while stepping hard unto the line of scrimmage before he releases. Nothing else changes for the O-Line and Tailback. Example: Pro Right 60 Protection - TE releases into route; Trevor blocks Right DE; Fullback steps into L.O.S. and spy's LB, if he doesn't blitz - releases into route; Bobby steps right and blocks 3 Tech.; Wehbe steps hard up-field with left foot and left hand first to help Collison, but still spy's LB to his right; Collison takes over Wehbe's 1 Tech to the right, Tailback steps up hard into L.O.S. between Left Guard and Left Tackle and spy's LB, Andrew blocks Left DE.

Hopefully this clarifies any confusion from today. Don't hesitate to ask any questions about the pass protections and how they are supposed to be run. We will have diagrams at practice tomorrow that your position coaches will go over as well.

Code of the Day: Kevin . . . . . . . . . . . . . Is taller than Kyle. Make sure your include the pause. It's all about the suspense before you deliver the rest of the code.

Enjoy the evening,

The News about "The Duze"

More Specifics on Jake Duzey:

Jake has been competing in a combine/recruiting service called Rivals.Com. Rivals.Com is a national testing service that helps underclassmen get the exposure they need to play football at the next level. As stated in the previous post, Jake was invited down to Indianapolis to compete in the Mid West's Top 100. Through his outstanding performance at the combine, Jake was selected as one of the nations Top 15 Wide Receivers. He will be leaving Friday morning to compete in Oklahoma where he will have his final evaluation and see exactly where he stands among the nations best receivers. On behalf of all the members of the Redhawk Nation, we wish Jake nothing but the best. Good Luck my man!

7-23-09 Offensive and Defensive Install

Gentlemen . . . and Collison,

Varsity will only be adding 26/27 Shuffle to the offensive package. I'm expecting this to be a good review night for all of you. Hit the playbooks hard - not literally Boomer. The faster you understand the concepts for our offensive and defensive schemes, the faster we become the most dangerous team this state has ever seen.

Code of the Day: "Bald is Beautiful." You may laugh now, but judging by some of your hairlines, it looks like you'll be wearing the same hairstyle as your old pal Coach Hepp really soon.

Much better job today! Let's continue to increase the tempo, and get better as a team every single day.

Enjoy the evening,

Coach Heppner

If they're feeling kind of woozy . . . It's because the nation's getting schooled by our man Jake Duzey!

Congratulations to "The Duze!!"

You'd never know it because he's one of the most modest guys you'll ever meet, but Jake Duzey is taking the football nation by storm. Jake has been competing in a National Combine Testing Service that measures things such as his 40 Time, Vertical, Bench Press Reps, etc., etc., along with different skill testing associated with the Wide Receiver position. After Jake's first workout, he was selected to compete again in the Mid-West's top 100 down in Indianapolis. I just received news that out of that Top 100, Jake was selected as one of 15 to compete again at a higher and more national level. We are still waiting on more details, but I definitely wanted to give credit to Jake and the accomplishments he's been able to achieve over the past few months. What does this all mean exactly? Well out of all the high school football players in the NATION, Jake is unquestionably viewed as one of the best. For further details, see Mr. Duzey.

On a side note, would somebody please make sure is he home before curfew!!!!! ; )

Inner Squad 7-on-7/July 15th

We will still have practice tonight rain or shine. If it rains too hard we will work on a few things in the gym. Practice time will be cut down to about an hour if we have to go inside, but it is still important for everyone to be there to critique a few things offensively and defensively from yesterday's scrimmage.

We will also be passing out Lift-A-Thon shirts for all of the players who participated in the event. Each player will receive their shirt along with a list of people that sponsored them for the event. Make sure that your call, write a letter, or make some type of contact to thank the people who helped make this thing happen.

Lastly, all players participating in the 7-on-7 on Thursday the 16th will be receiving a practice jersey to wear for the passing scrimmage. We made great strides yesterday against Dakota, but you know I'm never satisfied. We need to continue to correct our mistakes and capitalize on the things we did correct. Keep learning, keep competing, and keep all Redhawk family members - including yourself - accountable! Redhawk Football = Championship Football!

Dakota 7-on-7 for Varsity Football Players

Gentlemen,

This is an important reminder that Tuesday, July 14th and Thursday, July 16th the Varsity Football team members will be scrimmaging Dakota High School at 6:00 in the evening at Dakota High School. We will meet and leave at Athens no later than 5:00 both Tuesday and Thursday in order to arrive on time and warm-up appropriately. All Varsity players for both offense and defense, including Ben Bartnowak, must participate in the 7-on-7. All Freshman and J.V. players are highly encouraged to come along to continue their learning process, along with encouraging their football family members as they compete in the 7-on-7. I highly encourage all underclassmen that can get a ride to Dakota, attend the passing scrimmage. This is another opportunity to make yourself more mentally prepared for the up-coming season.

We will still have our inner-squad practice at 7:00 on Wednesday, the 15th at Athens High School. Remember Wednesday's are legal practices and all players participating in the 2009 season are expected to attend. We made great progress last Wednesday, let's keep the momentum going by increasing our participation numbers, and continuing to take advantage of the learning process. With only 30 days left before the start of the football season, we need to take advantage of every opportunity we have as a team to work together. This includes total participation by all members at the Troy Sports and Recreation Football Camp. The camp is Monday, July 20th through Friday, July 24th. Please sign up ASAP!

I need all players to respond to this email no later than Monday, July 13th by 7:00 pm. I want to see who is actually taking care of business with all aspects of Redhawk football.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Priorities?

33 more days until the start of Football Season.

133 more days until the start of Basketball Season.

I could be wrong, but I think statistics show that football season will arrive much sooner than basketball.

Have a nice day!

Dead Week Reminders

Gentlemen,

Hopefully you guys are enjoying the week off. Even though we are taking a break from structured football for a week, I still hope that you are taking the time to get your mental reps in. Remember, the smartest football player, is the best football player. Take the time to get into the playbook and study your position expectations, along with the play concepts - both offensively and defensively - that we have gone over so far. It is my expectation that all members of the Redhawk football family will know their playbook both inside and out. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or shoot me an email.

Also, remember to sign up for the Troy Sports Camp. The Sports Camp will be held Monday, July 20th through Friday, July 24th. It's important that all football team members sign up for this camp. This camp allows us to further our skills, and master the new terminology both offensively and defensively.

TAKE CARE. HAVE A SAFE 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND. SEE YOU ON MONDAY!
