Parent Meeting

Just a reminder to all football players that there will be a Parent Meeting Thursday, March 26th, at 6:30 pm in the auditorium. It's very important that all parents attend in order to get the information for up-coming events, and the summer schedule. We are trying to get every one's contact information at this meeting to help bridge the communication gap as well. See you there!

Weight Room Expectations

Gentlemen,

There are a few things that need to be clarified as we inch closer and closer to the start of the 2009 football season. The off-season training sessions have undoubtedly started, and the expectations in terms of hard work and commitment have certainly been established by myself and the new coaching staff. Unless you are participating in a spring sport, all players planning to be a part of the 2009 Troy Athens Football Family, are expected be at every training session. Of course, family emergencies, illnesses, and/or tutoring sessions are the only exceptions for missing a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and/or Friday workout. If you need to miss for any of these reasons, then it should, and must be, well communicated to myself or any other member of this coaching staff. The workout created by myself and Coach Divito is designed to make you the most powerful, flexible, and explosive ATHLETE this school has ever seen. Although these sessions are not mandatory, attendance is being taken. A file cabinet has been placed in the weight room for each of you to keep your training manuals organized by grade. Do not leave your manuals laying around the weight room. We will keep the weight room clean, and organized both during and after all training sessions. I will be posting the morning running schedule, which will start Tuesday, April 14th. There will be a meeting to discuss the Lift-A-Thon scheduled for Saturday, May 30th, as well. All meeting dates/discussions will be posted on the blog. It is your job to keep up-to-date on all the things happening during this off-season.

To function smoothly in any type of family environment, there must be exceptional communication, and accountability held by all members. Accountability is not just a cliche word that coaches like to throw around from time to time. By being around me, you will truly realize what it means to be accountable not only for all of your actions, but how those actions affect the people around you who mean the most. Think of the key members in your own family. Why is their role so important? What do you hold them accountable for? Have they ever let you down? How did that make you feel? These are all questions you need to ask yourself if you're walking the halls of Athens High School thinking you're just going to show up in August and get it done. Looking around, you have the best staff support from myself, your teachers, coaches, administration, along with Tom, and Troll. Why would you not want to take advantage of every opportunity you have to make yourself one step closer in becoming THE BEST member of this football family? Remember, to be a true champion you have to hold six characteristics of the word CHAMPS near and dear to the heart and soul of this program. We have to Compete. We have to have Heart; which is derived from the passion we have for the game. We need to have a positive and winning Attitude. We also have to be able to Motivate not only ourselves, but our teammates as well. We must be able to step on the field and be more than ready to Perform. Most importantly, we must be willing to SACRIFICE!

There is no more room, nor do I have any more patience for lip service. I follow the creed that actions speak louder than words. You have an opportunity to take this football program to the next level. Are you going to be the the canon that blows the rest of the competition out of the water? Or are you going to be the anchor that holds this ship back from setting sail to greatness.
The one thing I've learned over the years gentlemen is this:

Nothing is set in stone. You are the author writing the next great novel about your life. Once a chapter is written, it is your job to review it,
analyze it, an learn from it, because repeated negative behavior is
unacceptable. We are looking at the dawn of a new chapter in the life of
our Athens Football Family. You control the pen! What great things will
our readers see in the next chapter of this novel?

Let's have the best off-season this program has ever seen!

See You in the weight room!

No School. Still Lifting.

The weight room will be open today, March 9, at 2:30. The school was closed today due to a power outage. Power was restored this morning, so we are able to get our normal workout in. Please let your teammates know that we will still open the weightroom for our team.

Also, for those who come into the weight room in the mornings, I will not be in Tuesday morning due to testing for juniors. I will be in again Thursday morning at 5:45 to open the weight room for those who need to get workouts in early.

See you later today. Don't forget to let your teammates know that we are still lifting. Go Hawks!
